Week of October 18, 2010
By Dana Byerly, Hello Race Fans Co-founder
While it was a relatively quiet weekend compared to the last two, it could have been a preview of what to expect on the turf come the first weekend of November. With the European invaders sweeping all three Breeders’ Cup Challenge races at Woodbine, Hello Race Fans Contributing Editor Jessica Chapel correctly asks “Is there any doubt we could see the same this year?”
International Buzz Baby Frankel brought his record to 4-4 with an impressive win in the Dewhurst at Newmarket. While it’s unlikely that we’ll see Frankel at the Breeders’ Cup, Oak Leaf Stakes winner Rigoletta will definitely miss the Juveniles Fillies as she’s out with an injury. However, Awesome Feather burst on to the Juvenile Fillies scene with a dominant win in the My Dear Girl at Calder.
With the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Races complete, all eyes will now turn to final decisions and preparations for the Breeders’ Cup. News of who’s arriving at Churchil and who’s working will fill the coming weeks.
We’ll start to get in the Breeders’ Cup spirit around the site with a historical look at the usefulness of Breeders’ Cup prep races and a Ten Things about the Breeders’ Cup. You can keep up with all the commentary and news about the Breeders’ Cup at Raceday 360 Wire. Other items that have been popular this past week were Zenyatta, Woodbine and Racing History. Stop by find out what will be hot this week.
And speaking of Raceday 360, we’ve quietly rolled our original content section. All the previous features from last year are now available again. To get us started with our new original content, Ernie Munick interviews Ron Turcotte, Secretariat’s jockey. This week Munick will interview Jacinto Vasquez, jockey of Ruffian and Genuine Risk, stop by or subscribe to our RSS!
